Flame of Hope Week

Flame of Hope Week is Michigan’s second-largest fundraising and awareness initiative. This week-long event is made up of Community Runs, our Central Route, and additional opportunities for involvement throughout the week.

Since 1984, Flame of Hope Week has been a proud tradition of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), highlighting the incredible commitment of our volunteers, athletes, and supporters. It is a powerful week that brings communities together, raises critical funds, and shines a light on the mission of Special Olympics Michigan.

Community Runs

Community Runs take place across the state, where LETR officers, athletes, and community members carry the Flame of Hope through local streets to raise awareness and funds. These events are open to everyone and provide a meaningful way for communities to get involved, support our athletes, and help spread the message of LETR.

The second major component of Flame of Hope Week is our Central Route. This inspiring event features three teams — the Fraternal Order of Police, Michigan Department of Corrections, and Michigan State Police — who run from Copper Harbor to Detroit over the course of four days. The route is completed in a leap-style format, with teams running in all conditions and continuing nonstop, 24 hours a day.
